Poems for petite ones

I got a poetry kick about four-and-a-half years ago and created a small collection of children’s poems. I sort of tried to get them published, but only half-heartedly. I figured sharing them with all of you was better than letting them collect dust on my hard-drive. Here are a few of my favorites. Enjoy!

Inward Rivers

Quiet folks stand out largely because they are like square pegs in a society that clearly favors round ones. Why is that so? What’s so bad about being reserved? I believe we ought to ask ourselves in this loud and often insensitive western culture—is it really in our society’s best interest to turn all the quiet folks into talkers? On Friendship

I’ve been reflecting on friendship over the last couple of days. I’ve been looking around myself, recognizing that I have been blessed with an overwhelming abundance of friendships. I have so many people, near and far, that I love and cherish. So many people in my support network who would step up and help me with an emergency on a moment’s notice. So many awesome people. Yet I am also recognizing a problem with that great blessing. When you’re friends with everyone, what that really sort of translates to is that you’re friends with no one. Car nursing

Since we moved a 10-to-12-hour drive away from most of my family almost five years ago, and since I’ve had two babies since then, I’ve done those long drives with a needy baby several times. My sanity and salvation (and my babies’) on all of those trips was car nursing. When our friend suggested this post idea to me, he asked, “Do you do the lean?” I said, “Yeah, I go like this,” and sort of mimed the leaning contortion car nursing requires. His wife does it too. Too bad I don’t have any pics. . . .

Refrigerate-or-not?

I’m gearing-up to do another “God’s Medicine Chest” post, so I have healing foods and produce on the brain. It’s also on my brain because of this “pin” I saw and shared on my new Birth Faith Pinterest board. It was a blogpost from The V Spot outlining how to store a variety of fruits and vegetables. And it reminded me of the trusty chart I have on the side of my refrigerator, torn from Delicious Living Magazine about a decade ago. . . . .

Hear me roar

We are women. We are strong. We can push ourselves to our absolute limit and somehow find the strength to push some more. And then rinse and repeat.
